The OneTigris Backwoods Bungalow Test - 48 Hours ALONE in the Woods

The OneTigris Backwoods Bungalow is one of the most interesting and unique shelters I’ve ever tested. Priced around £100, it stands out from most tents on the market with its tarp-like canopy design, spacious bug-net interior, and pole-free setup. Designed for woodland campers, it offers serious bushcraft vibes while weighing in at just 1.44kg. Could this be the best shelter for forest wild camping? I spent 48 hours alone in the woods to find out.

Setting Up the OneTigris Backwoods Bungalow

Straight out the bag, it’s clear OneTigris love their branding—and this tent is no exception. Inside the bag, you get the main tent body, guylines, and 12 pegs. That’s not quite enough for a full pitch with ventilation and stability, so I recommend bringing a few extras.

With no poles included, this shelter is ideal for woodland use. I gathered four dead branches, carved notches into two for the canopy, and pegged out the structure. The setup took just a few minutes and felt intuitive for anyone used to tarp camping.

The canopy acts like a built-in tarp, offering a large sheltered area outside the main bug-net tent. It provides protection for your gear, cooking space, or just somewhere to relax with a clear view of the woods.

First Impressions and Features

My first reaction? It’s spacious. Genuinely roomy enough to sit, kneel, and move around—a big difference from my Phoxx 2 or Hilleberg. The massive bug netting provides both airflow and a fantastic panoramic view. In summer, this design will shine.

Ventilation is good with front and rear vents, though condensation is a known issue. I kept the canopy open both nights and had no problems with moisture.

It’s also a great-looking shelter. The coyote brown blends seamlessly into the surroundings, giving it an ideal stealthy edge for woodland wild camping. If you care about not being spotted, this tent works well.

What I Loved

  • Spacious interior: You can sit up and stretch out comfortably.

  • Lightweight build: Just 1.44kg for a full-sized canopy shelter.

  • Canopy design: Great for sheltering gear and cooking.

  • Coyote brown colour: Perfect for blending into woodland.

  • Simple to set up and take down: Especially if you’re used to tarp camping.

What Could Be Better

  • Condensation: As a single-skin shelter, moisture can build up.

  • Insufficient pegs: 12 isn’t enough for full guy-out points.

  • No footprint included: The groundsheet material is thin and needs protection.

  • Large branding: OneTigris logos are everywhere.

Final Thoughts: Who Should Buy This?

If you’re a woodland camper or bushcrafter, the Backwoods Bungalow is brilliant. The canopy, the spacious mesh shelter, and the aesthetic all come together to make it a top-tier choice for forest adventures.

But if you’re heading for exposed mountain tops like Kinder Scout, this probably isn’t your best option.

Overall, for under £100, this is one of the most enjoyable shelters I’ve tested. With a few added pegs and a proper footprint, it could easily be your go-to woodland shelter.
